Following President Xi Jinping's announcement at the UN in September 2021, China halted new coal-fired power projects abroad. This led to a significant decline in planned and on going Chinese-backed overseas coal projects. This report assesses the status of these projects as of August 2022, examining China's commitment and its global climate impact.
